SUMMARY
In the context of the implementation of the Prof DA Project of the «ProSucesso-Açores pela Educação» Program, of the Regional Secretariat for Education of the Government of the Azores, and of the «Mathematics Step by Step» Workshop, of the University of the Azores, the authors present 5 strategies for calculating addition and subtraction, to be implemented in the 1st year of schooling, as well as the prerequisites for this approach and its impact on future learning.
