8x8

The 8by8 project was funded by Erasmus+, the European Union's education programme. It started in September 2019 and ended in May 2022.

The project was led by Ludus, a mathematics association with a special focus on introducing a variety of strategy games into schools across the country. The project partners were ChessPlus, a London-based chess education company, and the House of Mathematics, part of the Pädagogische Hochschule Wien. The Hungarian e-learning company LearningChess was an associate partner.

Jorge Nuno Silva (Ludus) led the project. Stefan Löffler (Ludus) provided insight, wrote the application, liaised with partners and stakeholders and contributed to the selection and design of the game. Monika Musilek (PH Wien) organised the project meeting in Vienna and, together with Tiago Hirth (Ludus), conducted classroom observations on how students learn and play simple strategy games. They presented a research paper based on this work. Tiago Hirth also maintained the project website. Jérôme Maufras (France) provided assistance in the early stages of the project.
