Recreational Mathematics ColloQuia | Gathering 4 Gardner Europe
Recreational Mathematics is a multidisciplinary field that combines creativity, fun and science. In addition to being a source of pleasure and inspiration, it plays a fundamental role in mediating the teaching of mathematics, bringing it closer to diverse audiences. For millennia, this field has served as an inspiration for both scientific discoveries and educational and cultural development.
The Recreational Mathematics Colloquium (RMC) is a high-level international event dedicated to Recreational Mathematics, organized by Ludus Association in Portugal every two years.
Inspired by the tradition of meetings Gathering for Gardner (G4G), held in the USA since 1993, RMC brings together some of the most talented practitioners and enthusiasts of Recreational Mathematics, including world-renowned mathematicians.
Since 2015, at the invitation of the Gathering for Gardner foundation, the colloquia have been integrated into this movement as Gathering 4 Gardner Europe (G4GE). Each edition of RMC is a true “Show and Tell”, where brilliant “mathematical treasures” of varying levels of sophistication are presented, enchanting and inspiring participants with different interests and backgrounds.
With the support of several partners over the years, Ludus is proud to promote and organize these meetings, which combine science, education, history and entertainment in a unique and stimulating environment.
