Traveling to and in Lisbon

Lisbon has only one international airport. Direct connections can be found on the map. flights from Lisbon Airport here. Other airports in Portugal that are worth considering are Porto and Faro, located about 3 hours away from Lisbon. The main national railway company is Trains of Portugal, CP, which operates national routes and part of the suburban rail network in Lisbon. For journeys between cities, there are also several bus companies.

In Lisbon, Almada and, in general, in the Greater Metropolitan Area, GAML, public transport companies operate under a single flag, Metropolitan Rails. You can buy a rechargeable ticket with several options at any Metro and train station and in some stores, usually called PayShop. It is also possible to pay in cash or use NFC payment when boarding the train. Public transport is generally safe, but be careful of pickpockets on the more touristy lines. In addition to taxis, Uber and Bolt operate shuttle cars and scooter and bicycle rentals.

The Google Maps works progressively well and is integrated with these services.

Accommodation

After the Recreational Mathematics Colloquium VIII – Gathering for Gardner Europe, RMC VIII, the Combinatorial Game Theory Colloquium V, CGTC V, will take place from January 31 to February 2, 2025. There is a significant overlap in terms of organization, participants, but not in terms of location(!).

Therefore, we provide accommodation suggestions for participants in RMC VIII and CGTC V who wish to stay on the north bank of the Tagus River, as well as for participants in CGTC V only who wish to stay on the south bank of the river. However, we believe that even for these people, the north bank may be more appealing, as it is closer to the center of Lisbon. Although it may seem complicated at first glance, transportation to the conference venues is simple and quick.
