Travel To and In Lisbon
Lisbon has a single internation airport. You can check direct connections on Lisbon Airport’s Flight Map here. Other airports in Portugal worth considering are Porto and Faro, both about 3 hours travel away from Lisbon. The main national railway company is Comboios de Portugal, CP, they both run national travel as well as part of the suburban rail network in Lisbon. For inter-city travel there are also multiple bus companies.
In Lisbon, Almada and in general the greater metropolitan area, GAML, public transportation companies operate under one banner, the Carris Metropolitana. You can buy a tap-on rechargable ticket with various modalities at any Metro and Train station and in some shops, these are usually labeled PayShop. It is also possible to pay in cash or tap NFC-payment when getting on. Public transports are overall safe do however be weary of picpockets in the more turistic lines. Other than Taxis, there Uber and Bolt operate with ride-hailing cars and rental scooters and bycicles.
Google maps works progressively well and integrated with these services.
Accomodation
After Recreational Mathematics Colloquium VIII – Gathering for Gardner Europe, RMC VIII, the Combinatorial Game Theory Colloquium V, CGTC V, is taking place, January 31 – February 02, 2025. There is a significant overlap in organisation, attendees, but not venue(!).
Therefore, we provide accommodation suggestions for people attending both RMC VIII and CGTC V who wish to stay on the north bank of the river (Tejo), as well as for those attending only CGTC V who wish to stay on the south bank of the river. Nevertheless, we believe that even for those people, the north bank may be more appealing, as it is closer to the center of Lisbon. Although it may seem complicated at first glance, transportation to the colloquium venues is simple and quick.
