Introducing the concept of fractions in images: explorations in the 2nd year of schooling

SUMMARY
This article presents an approach to the introduction of the concept of fraction, through images, which reflects the work developed since the 2016/2017 school year within the scope of the implementation of the Prof DA Project of the Program «ProSucesso – Açores pela Educação», in the 2nd grade classes of the Escola Básica Integrada de Ribeira Grande, São Miguel, Azores. The activities developed were based on the guidelines issued by the training workshop «Mathematics Step by Step: Strategies for overcoming difficulties for the 1st Cycle of Basic Education». The implementation of the activities in the field resulted from a collaborative work between the Prof DA and the class teachers.
