SUMMARY

This article reports part of a research study carried out in a 1st grade class of the 1st cycle of Basic Education, within the scope of spatial visualization skills, specifically, figure-ground perception and perception of position in space. The research followed a qualitative and interpretative approach and consisted of the design and implementation of a teaching experience consisting of twelve sessions carried out in context. The evaluation of the project allows us to highlight, as main results, a clear development of the ability to identify figures immersed in others, the achievement of learning in the area of reflection and the development of the ability to identify and draw figures with reflection symmetry. The resources and materials used allowed the implementation of dynamic, motivating, concrete and meaningful activities for the students and were essential for achieving these results.
