Discovering patterns in preschool education

SUMMARY

This article presents a well-founded set of key ideas about the exploration of standards in Preschool Education. This is a support document for professionals working “in the field” (educators, assistants, among others) and a source of reference for parents, guardians and anyone interested in strategies to encourage preschool children to explore Mathematics. The text has two essential sections: a first section presents a categorization of appropriate patterns to explore in Preschool Education (repetitive patterns, progressive patterns and patterns with symmetry); a second section presents some typical explorations, hierarchizing degrees of difficulty and analyzing frequent reactions of children in this age group.
