Selection, construction and interpretation of statistical graphs by future primary school teachers

SUMMARY

With the introduction of Statistics in the first years of school, it is important to develop the training of teachers who teach this subject in the 1st and/or 2nd cycle of basic education. In this study, graphs produced by future teachers of the first years were analyzed as part of research projects. This analysis highlighted difficulties in relation to the suitability of the type of graph selected, the construction of the graph or an interpretation of the graph that is more focused on reading the explicit information than on interpretation. Therefore, these results point to the need to deepen the knowledge of these future teachers about graphs.
