The pedagogical use of stories involving mathematical reasoning in the 4th year of schooling

SUMMARY
This article presents the educational potential of the pedagogical use of stories for the development of mathematical reasoning, giving priority to algorithmic reasoning, and favoring a group problem-solving environment. The pedagogical intervention, developed over four lessons, took place in a 4th grade class, within the scope of Supervised Teaching Practice, of the Master's Degree in Teaching of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education and Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education at the University of Minho.
