Mathematics in preschool education: Whole-part schemes

SUMMARY

The Singapore Math, the method used to teach Mathematics in Singapore is, according to the most prestigious international evaluations, a successful example of the “concrete-pictorial-abstract” approach. One of the numerous teaching procedures are the number bonds (whole-part schemes), used in teaching fundamental facts related to the first ten: decompositions, additions and subtractions. In this article, we will analyze what they are, what their advantages are and how to use these schemes from preschool education.
