SUMMARY

This work is a documented summary of some key ideas about numbers, normally covered in preschool. In addition to being readable by researchers working in this area, the text was written to serve as a supporting document of interest to professionals working “in the field” (educators, assistants, among others) and as a source of reference for parents, guardians and anyone interested in children (basically, almost all of us). The topics covered, basically relating to the first decade and subdivided into the themes “Cardinality”, “Numerals” and “Ordinality”, are based on studies and opinions from mathematicians, psychologists and neuroscientists. In addition, the equally important contribution of numerous educators who shared their perspective and experience was taken into account. Therefore, in addition to the theoretical approach, many practical examples and some multimedia are presented.
