SUMMARY

Since 2004, the Ludus Association, the Mathematics Teachers Association, Ciência Viva and the Portuguese Mathematical Society have joined forces to hold a National Mathematical Games Championship (CNJM) that is attended by tens of thousands of primary and secondary school students every year. The event is a rare case of success, longevity and institutional cooperation, with the final of its eleventh edition taking place on 6 March 2015 at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (Vila Real). The selection of games for the various editions of the CNJM has taken into account logical-mathematical content, variety, historical importance, ease of preparation, age of players, etc. This selection has in no way excluded participants with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Access to education for people with SEN is today an inalienable right of this population, within the framework of a “school for all”, advocated by several international documents (Jomtien Declaration, 1990; Salamanca Declaration, 1994) and national documents (SE Basic Law, 1986; DL nº3/2008, among others). This work aims to constitute a “Book of Rules for the CNJM11 Games”, designed in Portuguese Sign Language and subtitled in Written Portuguese, so that it can be consulted by deaf students, families and educators/teachers.
