Conference on the History of Games in Portugal III

The JHJP is an annual meeting, open to anyone interested in games and their history, philosophy, technique, etc.

These conferences follow on from previous initiatives by researchers linked to the FCT Project History of Games in Portugal. The aim is to bring together in the same place, for a few hours, many people interested in games in Portugal. There is no particular era. We study and enjoy games from 4000 BC to the present day!

Some publications associated with this movement:

The Book of Games of Alfonso X
Game Boards Inscribed in Stone
1st History of Games Conference in Portugal
Musical Deck
Playing Cards: From the Factory to the Table
History of Playing Cards
Sources for the History of Games in Portugal
History of Playing Cards in Portugal and the Royal Card Factory of Lisbon

We have researchers, teachers, collectors, disseminators, inventors, traders, players and many other enthusiasts.

The JHJP are a privileged moment of sharing and learning for all participants. In addition to lectures, we propose a set of diverse activities to liven up the colloquium.

Previous editions have produced very interesting little books, which can be purchased at Apenas Livros and which are distributed to participants.

The III JHJP will take place on October 4, 2014 at the National Museum of Natural History and Science. Participants must register by email. There is no registration fee.
